Advertising the OffWorld Colonies, Spinners in the Rain: Sound Effects From Blade Runner

May 16th, 2008 by Jeff Simmermon

I can’t look out my office window on a grey rainy day like today without imagining Spinners weaving through the buildings, crowds of people with glowing umbrellas and shady eyeball craftsmen working their frigid magic on the streets. And as the 21st century grinds on, I’m more and more convinced that Blade Runner is coming true. It’s like some window in an alternate future was left open, just a crack, and all that alternate reality is whispering through, one invention at a time.

Listening to the Blade Runner soundtrack really helps this vision coalesce, too. Vangelis’ haunting ambient score over the sounds of busy, rainy city life are mixing really well with the view outside. A great geek friend of mine hooked me up with the motherlode too, a while back: a collection of ambient background noise and sound effects from Blade Runner.

And of course, I wouldn’t have mentioned it if I didn’t want to share … help yourselves to ambient background sound and effects from Blade Runner, as well as Vangelis’ score, laid over sounds from the film:

Thanks a lot for sharing these great sounds!
There’s nothing better than the Blade Runner soundtrack to create a nice, contemplative atmosphere. I always put the Blade Runner Blues on when it’s rainy and dark outside…

Does anyone know the correct order of the tracks in the 3 zip files? I’m too lazy to sort them myself… ;)

If you open the folders up, you’ll see that the tracks are labelled Track 01, Track 02, etc. Beyond that, I really can’t help you …

Well, I noticed that most of the tracks can be seen as a few really long ones, like track 01 from the second folder, track 05 from the first and track 07 from the second. Same with 02, 04 and 06 from the second folder. If played in sequence, they have a seamless transition.
I just thought someone knows the correct order of all tracks or figured it out already.
    Thanks anyway ;)

Wow! These are awesome. I found them after visiting your blog investigating the Koffee Kerfuffle. :o )

I’ve loved Blade Runner ever since I saw the original in theaters in 1982. At the time, movie critics hated the film but those of us in the know knew… the film rocked. It’s probably one of the reasons I ended up moving to Seattle after college.

These are going into the iPod right now.

    Cheers!

    Thanks!
