But I think this is meant to be more detail-oriented than mockery. Here in the States, we usually leave the impersonation of celebrities to the members of that celebrity's race. The Japanese have much fewer options in that regard, and while they're no tolerant angels either, I don't think they see that makeup in the same historic context we do when we find it offensive.
