Big Gay Face Tattoo, Courtesy of the Constant Siege

June 18th, 2008 by Jeff Simmermon

I’m still doing a little tidying up here, as you may notice. Like most white people, I’ve been through renovations before, and they’re a bitch. Everything’s dusty and there’s no time to cook. All you can do is order takeout and eat it next to the paintbrushes and plaster buckets and then fall into bed.

Until I can get it back together, here’s some truly excellent blog pizza.

I found this photo and video on Clayton Cubitt’s routinely mind-blowing blog The Constant Siege. Cubitt’s a photographer, a great one, and just got back from a trip to New Zealand. This video is shot in Cubitt’s hotel (I think), of a Maori tribesman talking about his moko (face tattoo) and the way that homosexuality is viewed in his tribe.

Here’s a portrait …

Chihuahua on Cheeseburgers

May 22nd, 2008 by D.Billy

Artist William Hundley, living and working in Austin TX, dares to ask the burning question that lurks deep within the psyche of every man, woman and child:

“What if I put that thing up on a bunch of cheeseburgers?”

More photographs of cheeseburger-elevated objects on William’s website, here and here … including an iron, a portable television, a skateboard, and a miniature Easter Island head.

Heads, Gold Bikinis and Dance: More Remixed Subway Adverts

May 15th, 2008 by Jeff Simmermon

The previously mentioned lord and master of 21st-century New York subway graffiti is at it again. He’s started a Flickr page under the name “Poster Boy NYC” with a lot more images, but these are the ones I liked the best out of the current crop of new releases.

Batman and Robin Behind the Scenes

May 12th, 2008 by Jeff Simmermon

This is just a cool found pic, taken on-set while filming the Batman TV show in the 60′s. You can see Adam West and Burt Ward “scale” a building here. Something about the graininess, the black-and-and white film makes it feel so noir … a very, very silly noir.

Pants? Where We’re Going, We Don’t Need Pants

January 31st, 2008 by Jeff Simmermon

A friend from another lifetime snapped this photo on her phone a while ago, somewhere in the faceless Yankee cancer that is Northern Virginia. For those of you that have difficulty making it out, it is definitely a DeLorean with both gullwing doors wide open and a license plate that says “NO PANTS.”

Rockabilly Westworld: Zombie Karaoke Elvis-bot

January 18th, 2008 by Jeff Simmermon

Zombie Elvis Karaoke-bot 1

My friend Eric called me up late the other night from somewhere outside of Barcade, panting breathlessly in the cold. “Dude, don’t go to bed yet,” he said. “I’m bringing something over for you.”

And what a something it was! In its heyday, he looked like this, functioning as an expensive karaoke toy.

Dueling Hairdryers: Vintage Portraits from Olan Mills

December 31st, 2007 by Jeff Simmermon

God, I wonder how much they spent on shampoo and conditioner as a household. Probably at least as much as this guy spent on mousse and hairspray.

That photo up there comes from a fantastic post (via Metafilter) of spectacularly crappy vintage portraits from Olan Mills Studios. Like one of the comments says, “hilarious in an oddly painful way.”

For a bonus treat, check out this lovely lady.

Happy New Year, everyone. Drive safe and don’t resolve too much all at once.
